Health Occupations Training
Instruction takes place in the classroom, laboratory and clinical atmosphere. Students are taught to care for patients whose conditions are relatively stable and free of complexity and to assist the registered nurse in caring for patients with more complex nursing needs. Students also learn to provide for the physical and emotional comfort of the patients. In addition to care services, students are taught to administer medications and therapeutic treatments under the direction of a registered nurse or licensed physician.
Practical Nurses work in hospitals, nursing homes, clinics, doctor's offices, public health units, schools and private industry. they provide care for the physically and mentally ill. The employment outlook is excellent. The employment opportunities are expected to continue to rise faster than the average for all occupations as this field of employment responds to the needs of a increased ageing community.
